Established by Henry Collier, the brand was known for its innovation and excellence, making the first V-twin engine in 1905 for example. The Great War propelled Matchless, producing motorcycles and sidecars for the military. Post-war, their bikes gained popularity for their reliability and performance.
The '30s marked a golden era with iconic models like the Silver Hawk and Silver Arrow being launched. However economic challenges post-WWII led to a merger with AJS and an eventual production halt.
