Forged Components For the Matchless G3 / G3L Motorcycle
Matchless is one of the oldest brands of British-manufactured motorcycles, producing a wide range of iconic models between 1899 and 1966. They grew to become one of W.H. Tildesley's largest heritage customers with over 200 forged components produced.
One model of motorcycle that Tildesley produced forged components for was the Matchless G3, and the lightweight army variant G3L.
During the Second World War, it is suggested that around 80,000 G3 and G3L models combined were produced. The G3L was developed in response to the War Office's requirement for an off-road motorcycle, weighing around 25 kilograms lighter than the G3. Known for its diversity and reliability in the field, it remained in use by the Ministry of Defence for another 15 years after the end of the war
Post-war, the G3L became the motorcycle of choice for UK trials and enabled champions such as Artie Ratcliffe and Ted Usher to win many events under the Matchless company banner.
