Founded in 1917. The Gloucestershire Aircraft Co Ltd was established to expand the production capacity of AirCo, another British manufacturer of complete airplanes. At its peak production in 1918, the company was producing 45 Bristol Fighters per week.
The company continued until 1960 when it was purchased by Hawker Siddeley and subsequently rolled into BAE systems in 1999.
