The British Tool & Engineering Company was established in 1915 and operated from Bushbury in Wolverhampton. They are best known for the production of mechanics' hand tools and in 1920 had established their position in the market under the Britool trademark.

W.H. Tildesley Ltd supported the Britool brand primarily with the production of forged spanners and wrench blanks. Various other forgings were supplied in support of their ongoing relationship and inter-trading with John Shaw and Sons (formally Jenks Brothers).
