Charles H Pugh formed a self-named company to contain his various businesses, with ATCO Mowers being one of them. 'ATCO' got its name from 'Atlas Chain Co' A company owned by Charles H Pugh Ltd, where some of the components for the first ATCO mower 'The Standard' were produced.
900 ATCO Standards were produced in 1921, with production accelerating into the tens of thousands within 5 years. Which makes the standard the first truly mass-produced motor mower.
