AC is among one of the oldest British founded car manufacturers. Founded in 1901, the company became Auto Carriers LTD in 1911, producing three-wheeled tricars and their 'Mighty Atom' also known as the Sociable.
Its first four-wheeled car was produced in 1913, just before production was halted and switched to War Time production; during which the AC works produced shells and fuses. Post-war, the company produced large numbers of vehicles under government contracts.
The company would change hands and liquidate many times over the years with the nationalisation and collapse of the British Automotive Industry and was relaunched in 2022 with a new corporate structure.
