Forged Components For the Veloce Velocette MOV, MAC, and MSS 'M' Series Motorcycles
Veloce was one of W.H. Tildesley's primary heritage accounts, with them producing many forged components for the company and their established motorcycle brand Velocette.
When analysing our archive we linked many forged components to the Velocette MOV, MAC, and MSS models. This motorcycle range was known as the ‘M’ series which launched in 1933 and ended in 1968.
In the early 1930s, Velocette introduced a simpler OHV engine design to their machines as this would be quicker to build and require less skilled labour to assemble. The first of these machines was the MOV model, using a 250 c.c engine.
This was swiftly followed by the launch of the MAC model in 1934 which saw an increased engine capacity of 350 c.c achieved by increasing the crankshaft's stroke. The MAC proved very popular bringing increased capital into the firm.
The ‘MOV’ and ‘MAC’ productions ran between 1933 and 1948.
In 1935 the MSS model was released with a heavier frame designed for sidecar use developed from the earlier KTT racing models. A larger 500 c.c capacity engine was also fitted. World War II halted production of the ‘MSS’ which did not resume until 1954 and ended in 1968.
Many of the M Series motorcycles share the same components, many of which are noted below.
