Forged Components For the Martini Henry Rifle
Established in 1874, W.H. Tildesley has produced many types of forged components in support of the British war effort. When reviewing our original archive several components linked to the Martini-Henry Rifle were found.
First entering service in 1871, the rifle has become one of the most well-known, most notably in the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879. The rifle was also used in the Battle of Isandlwana where 139 British soldiers successfully defended themselves against several thousand Zulus. This battle was celebrated in the 1964 film Zulu.
There were four main marks of the Martini–Henry rifle produced in its lifetime with official production ending in 1889. However, it remained in service throughout the British Empire until the end of the First World War.
