Forged Crankshafts For The AJS Prototype 632cc In-Line Four
W.H.Tildesley was heavily involved with local motorcycle manufacturer A.J. Stevens & Co Ltd, producing numerous drop-forged components for bike frames and engines between 1910 and 1945.
It was recently discovered by the Heritage Components Division at WHT that the company was primed and ready to mass-produce the drop-forged crankshafts for one of the first in-line four production motorcycles from the AJS brand known as the AJS 632cc Four Model.
Unfortunately, the engine and frame did not make it past the prototype stage with only two rumoured full motorcycles produced, one, the sole survivor, now residing in the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum in fully restored condition.
We take great pleasure in knowing that WHT produced crankshaft samples that were ultimately used in the prototype engine and primed for full production to support the launch.
