Forged Components For the Thundersley Invacar

Invacar Ltd is a name we came across in our heritage customer and drawing archive.  W.H. Tildesley produced a small collection of forged components for the company around 1972 that coincided with the production of the Invacar, a unique 3-wheeler vehicle designed for the disabled.

Around 18,000 were built between Invacar Ltd and AC Cars between 1972 and 1977 distributed free of charge through the National Health Service and served as part of a driver’s disability benefit.

The inception of the Invacar started with Bert Greeves of the Greeves Motorcycle brand who, in 1948, modified a motorcycle to aid his paralysed cousin Derry Preston-Cobb. Upon seeing many ex-servicemen returning from the war with life-changing injuries, Greeves reached out to the UK government who ultimately commissioned the production of the Invacar.
