New Forged Crankshafts For The Austin Mini A-Series Engines

The now classic and timeless Austin Mini is known as a small, two-door, four-seater car that saw many iterations such as fastbacks, estates, and convertibles. It was produced in 1959 by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors Britsh Leyland and the Rover Group.

Our client, a specialist supplier of components to the heritage motorsport sector, approached us. Their goal was for us to produce a new forged and strengthened crankshaft blank that could be finished machined to suit a variety of engines used throughout the Austin Mini’s lifetime. A common forging was achieved, allowing our client to machine finish to produce 4 variations of crankshaft designs. By utilising modern materials and processes, WHT was able to create a far superior version of the original.
