W.H. Tildesley's Involvement in the British Lock & Security Industry
Willenhall has been the centre of the British lock-making industry since the 16th century, with the Industrial Revolution turning Willenhall’s lock and key industry from a Craft Trade into a world-spanning giant. With W.H. Tildesley operating out of the same works in the centre of Willenhall since 1874, it’s only natural that we would have supplied components for Willenhall’s flagship trade and beyond.
Some examples of historic British lock makers that WHT has worked with are shown below.
Chatwood Safe & Engineering Co was a London based safe vault and lockbox manufacturer established in the mid-1800s. W.H. Tildesley produced many types of key blanks for the brand.
Chubb & Sons Lock & Safe Co, a global brand better known as 'Chubb', has been producing locks and safe boxes in Wolverhampton since 1818. W.H. Tildesley worked with the brand in 1940/41 to produce hinges, cams, and other forged components for the company.
James Gibbons Ltd was a Wolverhampton-based manufacturer of Architectural Fittings for both consumer and commercial use. Established between 1670 and 1750 according to various sources. W.H. Tildesley produced Key Blanks for the company between 1960 & 1969.
H Harrison & Sons (Belfry Brand)
Finally, we supplied H Harrison & Sons with Key Blanks briefly in 1933, the brand was best known for their ‘Belfry Brand’ padlocks.
